Nipples

Nipples are small, sensitive areas of skin found on human bodies regardless of sex or gender, and for many people they are erogenous zones tied to sexual pleasure. In LGBTQ+ contexts they carry added layers of meaning. In gay male and leather cultures, nipple play and nipple piercing have long been linked to eroticism and subcultural identity. For transgender, non-binary, and intersex people, the chest and nipples can be central to gender, whether through top surgery, which may remove, resize, or reposition nipples during chest reconstruction, or through everyday experiences of dysphoria and affirmation. Debates over the right to be topless in public, often framed as "free the nipple," also intersect with gender equality and bodily autonomy.
