PGP

PGP is an abbreviation for "preferred gender pronoun," meaning the pronouns a person uses for themselves, such as he/him, she/her, or they/them. The term was common in the 2010s, especially in campus and workplace settings where people began sharing pronouns during introductions and in email signatures. Usage has since shifted toward simply "pronouns" or "personal pronouns." Many people dropped the word "preferred" because it can wrongly suggest that using someone's correct pronouns is optional, when in practice it is a basic matter of respect. Sharing pronouns openly helps normalize the practice and signals that a space is welcoming to transgender and nonbinary people.
