POC (People Of Color)

People of color (POC) is a term used, mainly in a United States context, for anyone not considered white. It spans Black, Indigenous, Latine, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Arab American, and multiracial communities, among others. It is a political and solidarity category rather than a description of any single culture. In LGBTQ+ conversations, phrases like "queer and trans people of color" (QTPOC) name the overlapping realities of racial and sexual or gender minority identities, and point out that racism can show up both in wider society and inside mostly white LGBTQ+ spaces. A related term, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color), is used to emphasize the distinct histories of oppression faced by Black and Indigenous people specifically.
