Monosexism

Monosexism describes the social bias that privileges monosexual orientations, meaning people attracted to only one gender, whether straight, gay, or lesbian, over people attracted to more than one gender. Some researchers and advocates prefer the word over "biphobia" because it points at systems and assumptions rather than one person's fear. It shows up as the belief that bisexuality is a phase, is confused, or is not real, and it operates inside and outside LGBTQ+ communities. The effects include stigma, exclusion, and measurable harm to the mental and physical health of bisexual people, who can face rejection from both straight and queer spaces.
