Guy-Mode

Guy-mode is informal slang for presenting outwardly as male, most often used for a transmasculine person living in their gender or, in some communities, a trans woman who is not yet presenting as female.

Guy-mode is casual community slang for presenting to the world as a man in a given moment or setting. The exact meaning depends on who is using it. For a transgender man or transmasculine person, guy-mode can describe living and being read as male, the presentation that aligns with their gender. In some transfeminine spaces the parallel term "boy mode" instead means a trans woman temporarily presenting as male, often for safety, work, or family reasons before or during transition. Because it can point in either direction, context matters. The word is informal and belongs to online and in-person trans conversation rather than formal or clinical writing.
